New Custom & Border Protection (CBP) Regulation
Dear Valued Customer,
This is a general announcement for all customers who place orders for direct containers from Asia (China & Vietnam) to U.S.A. and Canada. New regulations have been imposed by one of the Department of Homeland Security components, the Custom & Border Protection (CBP) for all shipments by land or sea. Though we are uncertain at this time how these new rules will affect our customers, we do expect these regulations to impact our ability to track container shipments. We hope all customers are aware that Pacific Home and Garden, Inc., or any entities involved have no control over the CBP decisions. We will, however, do our best to work with you to comply and respond to CBP requirements. Thank you & we appreciate your business!
Some restriction/regulations that have been imposed are:
- New travel document requirements are now in effect.
- The threats entering U.S. through the Northern and Southern borders are different. To counter this threat, CBP officers change their operations and attempt to create some unpredictability in the land environment. In addition, due to the increasing volume of imports of goods crossing the U.S. border from all countries and through all ports, CBP has conducted more screening and physical inspection process to ensure comprehensive border security. This burden is most prevalent in the air environment, the sea and land ports.
- The volume of incoming cargo involves various entities: employees of cruise/cargo ships, shipping companies, terminal operations, and other organizations that have access to secure areas of CBP. Although updated status of container will be available at CBP system for custom broker, trucking company, or other involved entities, there is no guarantee of specific time will be notified to any party. Therefore, shipment that has been cleared from custom is only given 24 hours to be pulled out from the port it’s discharged.
